Our partners at the Longview News-Journal tell us Mayor Jay Dean and Mayor Pro Tem Sidney Allen have dropped their quest to amend the city’s fledgling landscape ordinances.

Longview city spokesman Shawn Hara said the pair mutually agreed Thursday afternoon to not proceed with plans to bring the ordinances back to the City Council for reconsideration.

This past Tuesday, Allen told a joint meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Landscape Task Force — which crafted the ordinances adopted in October 2009 — certain provisions in the ordinances could deter industrial growth for the city.
