Matrix recalls crossbows due to unexpected firing

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 - 5:21pm

About 1,000 Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 Crossbows have been recalled. The crossbow can fire an arrow without the trigger being pulled, posing an injury hazard to the user and to bystanders.

Excalibur has received one report of the crossbow firing unexpectedly. No injuries have been reported.

"Matrix 405" is printed on a label on the left side of the stock. The crossbow was sold in a mossy oak treestand camouflage pattern. The crossbows were sold in sporting goods stores nationwide from February 2014 through March 2014.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled crossbows and return them to the place of purchase. The store can return them to Excalibur for a free inspection and repair, or contact Excalibur for instructions on shipping the product directly to Excalibur.

Excalibur will pay for shipping.

Consumers can contact Excalibur Crossbow at (800) 463-1817 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at and click on “Important Safety Notice for Matrix 405 Owners” for more information.
