Massive fire in Smith County, evacuation ordered; Disaster relief crews on scene

SMITH COUNTY — Smith County officials say County Road 2305 has been added to the evacuation list. The fire is not close to being contained.


Smith County Red Cross just arrived on the scene.

Officials with the Red Cross tell KFXK they will be handing out cold water, sandwiches, and basic necessities as long as they are needed.

Depending on the need, they can provide shelter for people evacuated from their home.

The Red Cross is setting up command center at County Rd. 26, near the command post for the firefighters.

Officials with the organization say that the Red Cross is always looking for monetary donations to help those in need.

Smith County officials say the Texas Forest Service has deployed a Chinook helicopter. Firefighters are also using an air attack with 2 planes and three plows are on the scene.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are standing by.

Firefighters have been battling the blaze since about 12:30 p.m.


 An evacuation order has been given for the area surrounding CR 235 and CR 26. Law enforcement is approaching the scene to begin the evacuation process. All traffic on both CR 235 and CR 26 has been blocked in both directions.

 Multiple fire departments are battling a large, uncontained fire that has destroyed multiple structures and vehicles at 18545 CR 26, which is South of Hwy 31 and two miles east of CR 21 according to the Smith County Fire Marshall’s Office.

The fire has crossed CR 225 and is moving east. More fire crews and areal relief are en route.

Smith County fire officials tell KFXK there are at least two mobile homes involved in what they are saying is a very large grass fire.

They are calling in air support from the Texas Forest Service.

KFXK has a crew on the scene.

A Whitehouse fire official tells KFXK that multiple structures are being threatened on the 18,000 block of County Road 26 in Smith County.

There are reportedly 20 acres burning with four fire departments battling the blaze. The Texas Forest Service is en route.

Plows from Henderson have been brought in to help put out flames.
