CNN — A family outing on their sailboat turned dangerous when the boat was swamped and everyone was thrown overboard, but a determined family member swam away to find help, and he found it, five hours later.
"...come out; I look around the corner, and there's a man standing on my deck; and he just kept saying, 'I need to save my family.'"
That's Carol Wood, the woman who found the distressed 46 year-old boater.
He showed up at her house on the beach in Maryland, near Baltimore.
The man and four others on his boat had spent hours in the water after high waves overturned the 16 foot Carolina Skiff.
Five hours after swimming away from his family, he found the help he needed.
Rescue crews reached the family two hours later, all alive and clinging to the upside-down boat.
Officials credit the man's five hour swim and everyone's use of life jackets for the happy ending.
