Man rescued from tower in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Officials tell KFXK crews on the scene, the man has been rescued.

Rescue crews say the man was attempting to improve his television reception, and climbed the 60 ft. tower near his house.

The man is said to have fallen around 10:30 a.m., and dangled upside down in his harness for about 3 hours before crews were able to rescue him.

Officials say the man was not seriously injured, but has been transported to a Jacksonville hospital to be checked out.


Officials with both the Tyler Fire and the Jacksonville Fire departments confirm with KFXK that the man is dangling from an antenna tower.

Tyler Fire Department was called in to assist Jacksonville with the rescue, but has since been called off.

No word yet on the progress of the rescue.

Rescue efforts are underway in Cherokee County for a man dangling from a tower on County Road 3137.

Cherokee County officials tell KFXK the man is hanging about 60 feet from the ground. It's believed the man flipped off the tower because of a broken harness.

KFXK has a crew en route and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
