TYLER — Tyler Police officers gave KFXK details about the Wednesday morning theft of a police unit.

The man captured was reportedly trying to rob two women at a bus stop near Walton Rd. and Hwy 155 in Tyler, but changed his focus and attempted to carjack a man's vehicle.

When a Tyler Police officer arrived on scene, the man ran into the woods.

Tyler Police say their officer went into the woods to look for him, but the man re-emerged and stole the officer's police unit.

The man drove, lights on and in the wrong lane down Spur 364, in pursuit by several officers who were following in the correct lanes.

The chase ended near the First Baptist Church in Chandler off Hwy. 31, when officers performed a pit maneuver to stop the car.

The man attempted to run from officers, but was captured and taken into custody.

KETK will continue to update this story as we get more details in.
