The U.S. Postal Service’s proposed plan that could shift mail processing operations from Lufkin to North Houston poses a serious threat to prompt and reliable mail service to residents in the 759 zip code area, a local American Postal Workers Union official said.
USPS officials in September proposed the consolidation, relocation or closure of over half of its mail processing network, which could bring changes to the Lufkin Customer Service Mail Processing Center. Kalvin Mattox, Lufkin American Postal Workers Union president, said if postal executives get their way, the service on which postal workers pride themselves could come to an end in Lufkin and other local cities.
