Lufkin, TX — A Lufkin man died Sunday in an industrial accident in Newton County. That's about 70 miles southeast of Lufkin.

Kyle Helton, 22, was working on a pipeline located on FM 2626, about four miles from Highway 87, when a manifold fell on him and crushed him, according to a report from Mike Lout with KJAS.com.

Lout reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Agency was called in to investigate the incident, and that they have security officers stationed at the facility.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office was called out to the accident around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Sheriff Joe Walker was out of the office Monday afternoon and unavailable for comment.

Information from the scene was that the pipeline crew was disassembling a valve when the manifold fell on Helton, Lout said.
