Lufkin cyclist recovering in a Tyler hospital after being struck by a car

Monday, May 14, 2012 - 1:06pm

Lufkin, TX —
An avid Lufkin cyclist was recovering in a Tyler hospital Sunday after being struck by a car while riding his bike that morning.

Mark Dunn, president of Dunn’s Construction and an Angelina Bicycle Club member, was riding with friend Marc Lishewski around 7:20 a.m. Sunday on FM 1475 when the accident occurred, according to his wife, Shawn Dunn.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Joshua Senn said Dunn and Lishewski were eastbound on FM 1475 when Dunn was struck by a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Jessica Smith-Cardenas, 18, of Lufkin. She passed the bicyclists in a no-passing zone, and told Senn the sun was in her eyes, causing her not to see Dunn. The impact flipped Dunn over Smith-Cardenas’ vehicle, Senn said.
