Lufkin, Texas —
The Lufkin City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a special use permit for a telecommunications tower at 712 and 714 Kurth Drive.
According to city documents, the 160-foot tower, owned and operated by Verizon Wireless, would be equipped with antennae to provide enhanced communication services.
The council may have been limited on what kind of action it could take in the matter, as wireless telecommunications facilities, including towers and antennae, can be regulated by local zoning, but is limited by the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996.
