LONGVIEW- The staff of the Longview school district is stepping up to help provide food for students on the weekends.

For the past two years the Longview ISD has participated in the Backpack Meal Program, a program that sends home food to students who are economically disadvantaged.

With grant money running out at the end of the year, Longview ISD teachers, staff, and administration are stepping up to make sure these students have something to eat on the weekends.

Director of Child Nutrition, Phyllis Dozier said, "Some of our students don't eat on the weekend if we don't provide the food for them, so it's a passion that Longview ISD has for our own children and that we are able to provide that for them on the weekends."

The district says that it takes $20 to feed one student for a month.
