Longview Library Donates Books to Troops

Thursday, April 12, 2012 - 4:38pm

(Longview, TX) The Longview Public Library has partnered with the Thrifty Peanut Book and Media Warehouse in Louisiana and the Soldier’s Angels project to donate hundreds of books to troops stationed around the world. The donated books are gently used items that have been donated or have been pulled from the Library’s regular circulation. Representatives from the Thrifty Peanut will collect the donated books at 9:00 a.m., Friday, April 13 at the Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton St.
According to Assistant Director of Community Services Kara Spitz, “Each year we have a book sale to benefit various programs at the library, but we often have hundreds of books that remain after the sale. This is an opportunity for those books to continue to bring enjoyment to someone.”
The Soldier’s Angels Project will coordinate shipment with care packages to the troops. The Thrifty Peanut collected 18,000 books for the Soldier’s Angels project to ship to troops in 2011. The Thrifty Peanut’s donation goal for October 2012 is 100,000 books.
