Vicki Tramel, Culinary Arts Instructor in the Longview ISD Culinary Program at Longview High School, Longview, TX is the recipient of the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation’s 2012 Educator Excellence Award. Vicki has been evolving Longview’s program for 10 years and has over 200 students enrolled in the program this school year.

The TRA Education Foundation Educator Excellence Award was established to honor a culinary arts instructor in a Texas ProStart school that demonstrates leadership and excellence in culinary education. They must be advocates for the Texas ProStart program and dedicated to helping their students achieve the highest levels of success in high school culinary arts. Nominations are solicited throughout the year and winners are selected by a panel of judges based on qualities such as attitude, communication skills, flexibility, initiative, leadership, problem solving, professionalism and service.

Vicki shares, “This award means the world to me. Several of my students are already putting their skills and passion to work in the culinary field. It’s rewarding to see proof this program and hardwork is paying off.”

Vicki’s program has gained attention from local Kilgore College in Kilgore, TX, which will begin using the Longview facility for night classes this summer. But Vicki is most excited about the fall semester, 2012 when students at Longview will receive dual credits (High School and College) for their work in the Culinary Arts program. Vicki is passionate and dedicated to her students and has worked hard to grow the Longview Culinary Arts Program to the level it is today. Vicki has inspired many students and created lasting relationships. She continues to mentor many of her students even after they leave her classroom. Vicki is a board member of the East Texas Restaurant Association, has been a board member and co-chair of the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation and is an active member of the Texas Restaurant Association.

The award was presented at the 2012 Southwest Foodservice Expo, June 24 in Dallas, Texas. A’la Cart Foodservice Consulting, Auto-Chlor and Texas Beef Council are sponsors of the TRAEF Educator Excellence Award.
