LoneStar cards being declined at ETX grocery stores

LoneStar cards have been being declined left and right at East Texas grocery stores.

Texas, however, is not the only state having this problem.

More than 600,000 Oklahoma residents have been declined while using their means of food stamps.

The problem may have to do with the Electronic Benefit Transfer system.

A power outage with Xerox, who is the vendor for the EBT systems across Texas and Oklahoma may have caused the system-wide glitch.

But, that is not everyone's theory,

FOX51 spoke with Kroger in Longview, who said they have been having trouble with the cards all day.

"We contacted our parent company in Louisiana, who believe the government shutdown has finally affected food stamps funding, and that includes the LoneStar cards," said a Kroger spokesperson. "Customers are becoming irate."

Details are limited, but FOX51 is expecting a statement from the USDA, shortly, and will update information as soon as it becomes available.
