From the Longview News-Journal:

The no smoking sign could be going up statewide under a provision tacked onto a spending bill in Austin.

Rep. Myra Crownover’s (R-Denton) measure bans smoking in all public places, including nightclubs and restaurants that don’t have an outdoor area for smokers.

It also forbids workplace smoking and lighting up in the seating area of outdoor sports events.

The measure was added Saturday to a budget bill by a 73-66 vote. It and the fiscal matters bill to which it was attached go now to a conference committee of both House and Senate members.

The law would take effect Sept. 1 if signed into law. Fines range from $50 for a first offense to $500 on the third offense.
