On Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 12:36 a.m. Kilgore Police Department Telecommunications Operator Amber Sims received a 911 call from a Christopher Chadwick, 23 years of age, of Longview Texas. Mr. Chadwick told Operator Amber Sims he was injured after being involved in a serious accident and he did not know his exact location.
Amber was able to narrow his location to Stone Road and quickly dispatched several patrol officers to the area to begin searching.
Amber continued to work with Mr. Chadwick until it was finally determined he was located on Danville Road.
Kilgore Police Officers Josh Sims and Brady Middlebrooks located the accident Mr. Chadwick had flipped his Dodge Challenger several times and he was pinned in the vehicle which was now upside down.
Other Kilgore Police officers soon arrived and smoke was seen coming from the trunk area of the vehicle.
The vehicle also began leaking gasoline. Soon a fire started in the trunk of the vehicle.
This in turn began to discharge shotgun and handgun ammunition which was stored in the trunk.
Disregarding the dangers involved, Officers attempted to extract Mr. Chadwick from the vehicle several times but were unsuccessful.
Officer Sims and Corporal Terry Linder were able to control the fire with fire extinguishers while Sergeant Jarod Sears and Officer Middlebrooks spoke with the pinned driver to keep him calm.
The rescue effort was also aided by Off -Duty Longview Police Officer Alexander Chorba along with Trooper Russell Steelman.
Kilgore Fire and Rescue arrived a short time later and extracted the driver from the vehicle.
The accident which occurred just outside the Kilgore City Limits is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Mr. Chadwick suffered injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital by Champion EMS. His current condition is unknown.
