KIA recalls the Optima

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 - 8:54pm

KIA Motors is recalling about 146,000 '06 - "08 Kia Optima and '07 - '08 Rondo wagons.

KIA is making the recalled because the driver's air bag may not deploy in a crash due to "wear and tear" of the clock-spring contact assembly over time preventing the air bag from deploying. The driver, however, would be warned by the air-bag warning light if there was a problem.

KIA says that it's not aware of injuries related to the defect since it learned of the problem last fall after reviewing warranty claims.
