Kaufman County, TX (Fox 51) — East Texas authorities are on the look out for two people officials say were involved in a shooting at the Kaufman County courthouse on Thursday morning. The courthouse is on lockdown.
The victim, the Kaufman County assistant district attorney, Mark Hasse, 58, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say Hasse was attacked and shot multiple times in the parking lot.
Kaufman County DPS officials say they have deputies on scene at the courthouse, and multiple law enforcement agencies are searching several counties in the area for the shooter or shooters.
They are looking for two men in an older model silver Ford Taurus. The license plate number is unknown. The men may be in dark colored clothing, and witnesses told officials that at least one of the men was wearing a tactical style vest or jacket.
Authorities tell Fox 51 that Hasse had previously worked on cases involving the Aryan Brotherhood in Dallas, but there is no confirmed connection between those cases and Thursday's shooting.
Smith County DPS spokesperson, Trooper Jean Dark, tells Fox 51 that local law enforcement officers have been alerted that the shooters may be in any part of East Texas.
Kaufman DPS authorities tell Fox 51, a DPS helicopter is assisting in the search, and officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also investigating.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible.
