Jiu Jitsu Tournament in Tyler

Saturday, January 7, 2012 - 11:48pm

It was an opportunity for East Texas fighters to show off their skills, and not have to drive too far from home.

The event was organized by the Lone Star Mixed Martial Arts Gym in Tyler, and the crowd was twice has large as last year's contest.

Now there weren't any punches or kicks thrown in this tournament.

Jiu Jitsu is a fighting style based around grappling, and submission.

Many were seasoned veterens, but there was a large contingent of kids, and their parents, fighting just as hard.

But every bout ended with both competitors, and coaches shaking hands, and congratulating each other.

And event organizer Drew Arthur says that is what this event, and Jiu Jitsu, is all about.
