Van Zandt County authorities have released the name of the man who is believed to have assaulted a 97-year old woman and then stolen her car.

On late Saturday, a high speed chase started in Smith County and ended just outside of Van Zandt County. Air support and K-9 police were called in to help assist once the man abandoned his vehicle and ran from law enforcement.

The suspect, now identified as David Wayne Taylor, was found and detained early Sunday morning.

Taylor was taken to a local hospital and was treated for minor injuries sustained during the foot chase.
