People who live near the Sadler's Smokehouse in Henderson say they've had enough of the smell coming from the barbecue business. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Sadler's has three ponds on their property used for waste. Two are used for left over grease, and animal bi-products. The TCEQ issued Sadler's a violation notice, and the company has two weeks to clean up the mess and get into compliance with code, or pay a fine and answer to Austin officials. The city tells KFXK they have a plan of action from Sadler's and are watching to make sure the mess is properly cleaned up. KFXK asked Sadler's President, James Reed, for a comment, but he declined. The company has until June 6th to comply before further action is taken by TCEQ.
The group of concerned citizens will meet with the Henderson City Council on June 14th to talk about a more permanent solution to the ponds.
