Gregg County man gets 30 years for third DWI offense

GREGG COUNTY — From Gregg County D.A.'s office:

On Monday, May 2, 2011, in the 188th Judicial District Court of Gregg County, Texas, Judge David Brabham sentenced Lonia Halton to thirty (30) years in the Institution Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More under a plea agreement between the State and the defendant.

On April 23, 2010, at 1:58 pm, the Texas Highway Patrol responded to a report of a three vehicle accident on South Highway 149 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas.

It was found that Mr. Halton had failed to control his speed and rear-ended the vehicle in front of him and that vehicle consequently rear-ended another vehicle.

Mr. Halton was determined to be driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident. It was also determined that Mr. Halton had at least two previous convictions for Driving While Intoxicated making this a felony offense.

The State was represented by Mrs. Tanya Reed and Mr. Halton was represented by Mr. Alex Tyra.
