Longview,TX — The Gladewater ISD school board has approved a balanced budget while giving two step increases to all staff members and maintaining its tax rate.
“Last year was tough on us, but this year it’s going good,” Superintendent J.P. Richardson said.
All of Gladewater ISD’s employees are on a salary scale based on steps that increase with years of experience. Richardson said this year’s budget includes two step increases for all employees to make up for salary freezes the district implemented one year ago in light of impending state budget cuts.
That news comes after some other East Texas school districts, including Longview ISD, have announced they are freezing pay and will not be giving their staff raises in the coming year.
Payroll costs account for almost 80 percent of the approved $15.6 million fiscal budget, Business Director Susie Stephens said.
