Gilmer wreck sends 5 to hospital

At least five people have been transported to area hospitals after a two-vehicle morning crash involving a tractor trailer in Upshur County.

East Texas Medical Center spokeswoman Rebecca Berkley said three children were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview and two patients were being airlifted to ETMC-Tyler.

Berkley said she could not confirm the ages of the patients.

Department of Public Safety, Upshur County Sheriff's deputies and Upshur County Fire Department were dispatched to the crash near the intersection of FM 1650 and FM 726 between Diana and Gilmer at about 8:45 a.m., Upshur County dispatch reported.

Officials said the Jaws of Life were use to extricate the victims involved in the crash.

Four ground ambulences and two helicopters were sent to the scene of the crash, Berkley said.
