Friday wildfire update

TEXAS — Yesterday Texas Forest Service responded to 26 fires for 874 acres.

So far today there have been 5 requests for assistance from Texas Forest Service (TFS) resources.

Robertson County, Unnamed fire - N31 02.52 W96 32.77 - TFS bulldozers responded at 3:15. Approximately 20 acres 4 miles west of Franklin.

Panola County, Fire #81 - N32 00.269 W94 28.4234 - TFS bulldozer responded at 4:45. 1 acre fire in cutover approximately 3 miles east of Dotson.

Smith County, Fire #80 - N32 23.907 W95 6.963 - TFS bulldozers, engines, and supervision responded at 3:30 pm. 3 fires of approximately 10 acres from a car fire. 11 miles NE of Tyler.

Hardin County, Fire #183 - N30 23.28 W94 38.58 - TFS bulldozer, engine, and supervision responded to fire burning in 15-17 year old plantation at 2:00 p.m. Fire is approximately 100 acres 1 mile SW of Thicket. Cause of fire-car tire. Crews are constructing lines.

Camp County, Fire #104 - N32 59.490 W95 06.329 - TFS bulldozer responded at 1:40 pm; Pittsburg FD on scene. 6 acre fire in pine plantation 1 mile west of Leesburg; cause debris burning. Contained at 2:20 pm.

Brewster County, Ralph Keller Ranch Fire - 2,129 acre fire was contained at 2:12 pm on 3/23.

Presidio County, Dipper Ranch Fire - N30 03.386 W104 16.147 - Asheville Hot Shots on fire to complete containment line. 2,500 acre fire started on 3/23 25 miles south of Marfa off US 67. No known threats or evacuations. 75% contained.

Eastland County, Lawrence Ranch Fire - N32 29.930 W98 36.636 - The 42 acre fire began on 3/23 and was 100% contained at 12:00 pm on 3/24. A TIFMAS Strike Team, composed of structural fire fighters activated through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, also responded to the fire with structural fire engines (brush trucks specifically designed to battle wildfires).

Jones County, Berry Fire - N32 38.977 W100 0.179 - 131 acre fire 9.5 miles southwest of Anson. Contained 3/24/11 at 8:00 pm. Estimated Control at 8:00 pm on 3/25/11.

Jones County, Lightning Strike Fire - N32 36.9-4 W99 45.337 - TFS engines, bulldozers, and supervision responded to 49 acre fire. 57 homes threatened and saved; 30 barns threatened and saved. Contained at 2:00 pm on 3/25.

Camp County, Fire #102 - TFS bulldozers responded at 6:30 pm on 3/24 to 2 acre fire at CR 4425. Controlled at 2:45 pm.

There are 8 carryover fires from previous days for 666 acres:

Lampasas County, Whittenburg Fire - N31 13.886 W98 28.558 - TFS resources responded along with Lometa, Lampasas, San Saba, Goldthwaite, and Adamsville Fire at 2:00 am today. The 180 acre fire was in grass and timber approximately 5 miles west of Lometa. 1 home and 3 barns threatened; none lost. Railroad trestles and railroad ties on the Great Americans Railroads Private Line that runs from Lometa to Brady were threatened. A TIFMAS Strike Team, composed of structural fire fighters activated through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, also responded to the fire with structural fire engines (brush trucks specifically designed to battle wildfires). Fire was 100% contained at 1:00 pm on 3/24.

Val Verde County, Loma Alta Fire - TFS bulldozers, engines, and supervision responded to the 38 acre fire on 3/23. 11 houses were threatened; none were lost, Fire was 100% contained at 2:45 pm on 3/24. All resources released.

Hale County, Thompson Fire - N34 04.26 W101 49.16 - TFS taskforce of 2 engines and overhead responded to a 400 acre fire at 4:09 pm. 3 homes and 2 structures threatened. 3 homes saved; 2 structures destroyed.

Freestone County, Hill Ranch Fire/Fire #77 - TFS bulldozers responded at 12:15 pm to a 325 acre prescribed burn from 3/23/11. 135 acre catchout. No structures threatened. Contained at 4:30 pm.

Walker County, Fire #177 - N30 46.176 W95 36.539 - TFS responded at 3:35. 4 acre fire. 2 homes threatened. Approximately 5 miles NW of Huntsville near Walker Lane.

Fayette County, Rozov Fire - TFS responded on 3/24 at 6:00 p.m. Fire was estimated at 3 acres. No structures threatened. Contained controled at 7:00 pm on 3/24.

Fisher County, Cox Fire - N32 51.729 W100 33.858 - TFS bulldozer, engine, and supervision responded on 3/24 at 10:15 pm. Roby and Rotan VFD responded to fire. 5 acre fire 21 miles NW of McCaulley. 3 homes threatened; 3 homes saved.

Marion County, Fire #103 - Coffeeville Road - 1 acre fire caused by debris burning Controlled at 1:00 pm on 3/25/2011.
