LUFKIN — With four capital murder suspects in custody and one at large, Lufkin Police are releasing details about the night Robert Darnell Bennett was shot to death in his home on California Boulevard.
According to Lufkin Police Cpl. Travis Strickland, Bennett’s murder was the result of a robbery plot gone wrong, leaving Bennett dead allegedly at the hands of Jacob Woodard, 20, Osvaldo Hernandez-Escamilla, 18, Geraldo Renteria, 18, Jesus Everado Vela Jr., 17, and Raphael Ortega, 20, all of Lufkin. Ortega remained at large Monday morning. Strickland identified Woodard as the alleged shooter.
