Nacogdoches, TX — Nacogdoches County fire departments and the Texas Forest Service are battling a fire covering several acres that is threatening eight-to-10 homes along CR 204, officials said.
A forest service helicopter was dispatched to another fire on CR 113 that was inaccessible to fire trucks, Lilbert/Looneyville Volunteer Fire Department Safety Officer Rodney Whitaker said.
"That fire is about two or three acres in size and there are eight-to-10 homes threatened," Texas Forest Service Urban Wildland Interface Specialist Jan Amen said. "We dispatched a helicopter to that one at 3 p.m."
"Anytime you have structures threatened like that, we're going to send a helicopter out," she said.
Another fire was being fought just west of Lake Nacogdoches, as well, Whitaker said.
The fire on CR 204 had the eastbound lane of the highway closed for about 30 to 45 minutes while fire trucks had hoses and other apparatus over the highway and heavy smoke blew across the road, he said.
