Fire prevention week in Tyler

Monday, October 10, 2011 - 11:03am

In observance of Fire Prevention Week the Tyler Public Library will offer young children the opportunity to meet City of Tyler firefighters during story times at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 11, 12 and 13.

"Each year, we invite firefighters to visit with the preschoolers and their families who attend ReadAloud Crowd during Fire Prevention Week,” said Evelyn McLane, Library programming associate. “It’s an opportunity to familiarize young children with firefighters in their uniforms and working gear, to establish a rapport by reading aloud, and to educate families on the basics of fire safety. Plus, a chance to crawl around a real fire engine is great fun!”

Fire Prevention Week is all about keeping the community safe from fire. The week-long observance is an opportunity to educate the public on the leading causes of home fires, ways to protect homes and families with life-saving technologies and the importance of home escape planning.

ReadAloud Crowd is a weekly story time for preschoolers at the Tyler Public Library in the Story Room. The Library is located in downtown Tyler at 201 S. College. For more information about ReadAloud Crowd or any other Library program, call (903) 593-7323 or visit www.tylerlibrary.com.
