On Friday morning, officials released the cause of a Longview house fire and identity of an elderly man who was killed in the incident Thursday.

The blaze, which happened in the 500 block of Idle Wood, broke out around 3:00 p.m. Two people were inside the home, but only one person was killed; the second suffered burns on his hands and was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities have identified the man killed as Emmit Brook.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be an overloaded electrical plug in a bedroom wall behind furniture. Firefighters found several electrical devices, including a space heater plugged into the outlet. Mr. Brook's body was found in this room.
