The City of Longview Fire Department is sponsoring a Block Party in recognition of October as National Fire Prevention Month. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16, at Central Fire Station, 200 South Center Street.
According to Interim Fire Chief J.P. Steelman, “The Annual Longview Fire Department Block Party is an exciting opportunity for residents of our community to become better informed, to closely interact with emergency service providers, and to learn more about the areas of fire prevention, firefighting, and emergency medical services. We open our doors and extend this invitation in hopes that people of all ages will come participate and observe first hand some of the operations, customs, and traditions of the Longview Fire Department.”
The Block Party is open to the public. The event will include free hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks. The department will provide a demonstration of sprinkler systems by performing a live burn, Fire Engine functionality, and High Angle Rescue. Other activities include interactive firefighting display for children, a special appearance by Longview Fire Department Pipes & Drums, an “Adrenaline Rush” obstacle course, pumper races, and bucket rides.
