ETX woman's throat slashed; left for dead

An East Texas woman's throat is slashed, and she is left for dead Wednesday morning.

Jeremy Ayres, 25, is accused of trying to kill the woman in rural Angelina County.

On Wednesday, Ayres picked up an unidentified woman as she was walking along Pine Island Road, and at some point, they were stopped on the side of Pine Island road to use the bathroom. Suddenly, Ayres dragged the woman out the truck and slit her throat with a knife. He then left her on the ground and drove away, according to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

The victim is alive and in "good" condition at a Lufkin hospital.

Ayres is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently in the Angelina County Jail on $500,000 bond. A warrant was issued for Ayers and arrested after the victim identified him in a lineup.
