Eagle Scout with gay parents petitions Boy Scouts' policy

Supporters of a lesbian mom are protesting her removal from an Ohio Boy Scout troop.

On Wednesday, a group presented a petition with more than 275,000 names at the Boy Scouts of America's annual meeting in Florida.

Deborah Tyrell was removed last April as a den mother of a troop near Bridgeport, Ohio.

Boy Scouts' policy bans gays from being adult leaders.

Among those who presented the petition was Eagle Scout Zach Wahls, an Iowa college student who was raised by lesbian mothers.

"Obviously the federal government has a policy through the Defense of Marriage Act that discriminates against people like my own parents and millions of other LGBT Americans. However, I am unwilling to discard the entire organization just like I'm unwilling to discard this country because of one single policy."

A spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America says there are no plans to change the policy, but the organization values freedom of expression.
