RUSK COUNTY— Rusk County officials made a big bust during a routine traffic stop Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday at around 9:20 p.m., a Rusk County K-9 unit stopped a driver on US Highway 59 North.

The deputy noticed numerous signs from the driver, Dwaune R. Riggins, 33, of Springfield, Ohio, that were suspicious. The deputy asked to search the vehicle and the suspect said no.The narcotics dog was then instructed to do a scan of the vehicle, and it alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted by the deputy.

During the search, a bottle was found in the passenger compartment of the vehicle containing codeine and a large amount of cash, totaling about $14,700.

Riggins was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance and money laundering.

On Thursday Justice of the Peace Joe Sorrells charged the Riggins and set his bond totaling $30,000.Riggins was released on bond the same day.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle stated this seize was due to the professional training and observation by his deputy and their K-9. Sheriff Pirtle commends both for a job well done.
