Driver, 17, charged in fatal wreck that killed Longview ISD student

Two of the three teenagers injured in Wednesday's fatal wreck in Longview have been released from a local hospital.

It still unknown where the victim, Cristian Ali Monreal, 18, of Longview, was sitting in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Officials first believed Monreal had been sitting in the truck bed, but then later said that may not be the case. More information is expected on this later in the day.

The 17-year-old driver, whose name has not been released, has been charged with failure to maintain speed, and it's possible they could face more charges.

Two of the teens have been released, but one who was in serious condition following the wreck is still recovering. Their current condition is unknown.

The four students were on early release and headed to soccer practice when the crashed occurred, according to Longview ISD.

Monreal's body has been sent for autopsy.

ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fatal wreck in Longview at the intersection of Airline Road and Skyline View Drive Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Longview Police Department, at around 4 p.m., a truck carrying four people hit a fence and rolled. Officials say two people were in the back of the truck at the time of the accident.

The jaws of life were requested to assist in the removal of at least one passenger. Ariline Rd is closed from W Loop 281 to Commander Drive.

Three people were taken to a local hospital-- two with minor injuries and one serious.

The teenager killed, who was sitting in the front seat passenger side, was thrown through the windshield. He has been identified as Cristian Ali Monreal, 18, of Longview. The victim who is in serious condition was sitting in the truck bed at the time of the crash.

The ages of the three passengers not killed are 17, 17 and 18. Their names have not been released.

According to former Longview ISD Athletic Director Pat Collins, all four boys involved in the crash are on the soccer team. Monreal is a part of the 2013 LISD class.
