DPS identifies man killed in weekend crash near Mineola

One person was killed over the weekend in a one-vehicle accident in Wood County.

According to the Department of Public Safety, at 8:50 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the scene of a crash about one mile east of Mineola on FM 1254. When troopers arrived, they discovered a vehicle lying on its side.

Investigators determined the truck was headed east on 1254 when it left the north side of the road and then came back across the roadway, leaving the south side. The vehicle struck a tree, rotated clockwise and landed on its side.

The driver, Jose Ramirez, 59, of Mineola, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Alice Tomerlin. He was not wearing a seat belt. His body was taken to the Beaty Funeral home in Mineola.
