DOG POUND: ETX schools closed Friday as football teams face off in 3A state championship

Friday, an old football rivalry flame will rekindle as the Kilgore Bulldogs (14-0) face off against the Carthage Bulldogs (14-1) at 12:00 p.m., at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, setting up the "East Texas Bowl" for the Class 3A Division I state championship.

As the two Piney Woods powerhouse teams get ready to take the field, school for KISD and CISD will be canceled to allow fans to attend the highly anticipated matchup.

Friday's game will mark the 49th time the teams have played with Kilgore leading the all-time series 27-21. The last time the Dogs faced off was 2009 when Carthage cruised by Kilgore 29-17.

The championship game will mark Carthage's fifth appearance and Kilgore's second. Carthage has three championships under their belt with a wins over Celina (49-37) in 2008, Graham (13-12) in 2009 and Coldspring-Oakhurst (47-22) 2010. Kilgore defeated Dallas Lincoln in a 33-27 overtime thriller in 2004.

Presale tickets for both schools will run $12 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets at the gate will be $15. All children one-year-old and up will need a ticket. Parking will cost $10 per vehicle for a normal parking space and $50 for a large fan bus.

Kilgore Ticket Information:

  • Tickets for the game will be sold in the Athletic Office at Kilgore High School from 8:00 a.m., - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and 8:00 a.m., - 1:00 p.m., Thursday.

Carthage Ticket Information:

  • Tickets for the game will be sold at Ken Turner Pharmacy and Carthage Junior High, Carthage High School and the Carthage ISD Administration Building until 1:00 p.m., Thursday.
