City of Whitehouse hires assistant police chief after audit reveals problems with department
KETK has learned the city of Whitehouse has hired a new assistant police chief after an audit revealed problems with the police department.
The city ordered the audit to explain the high rate of turnover within the department.
With Police Chief Rick Waller still on leave from another investigation involving the misappropriation of fuel funds, Whitehouse police swore in a new assistant police chief Tuesday.
Craig Shelton, who used to work for Smith County, is the new assistant.
The department says they have never had an assistant police chief before, and they are hoping he can help with some of the problems.
We'll have more details on the audit tonight on KETK News at 10.
