Church in dire straights due to unexpected bill increase

The Tabernacle of Praise is a small Jacksonville church, catering to the elderly with a congregation of only twenty members.

But because of a sudden hike in the electricity bill, the church may have to close its doors.

Church leaders tell KETK, they have paid a modest electricity rate for more than ten years, but last October, Oncor started adding a much higher delivery charge, between 100 and 200 dollars.

A charge, founder Mary Rawlinson says, the church just can't keep paying.

Tom Trimble with Oncor says the church falls under the non-residential rate, and those charges were added due to a demand in energy charge.

But he says he will personally look into the matter, to try and find some resolution.
