Cherokee County officials release names of Alto bank burglars

Cherokee County — On Wednesday June 29, 2011 at approximately 3:50pm Cherokee County Sheriff ‘s Office received several calls in reference to 3 black males dressed in black that attempted to enter Bancorp South on North Marcus Street in Alto, Texas. Descriptions of the persons and vehicle as well as direction of travel were provided by witnesses in the area.

The information was immediately broadcasted to all law enforcement officers on duty. Approximately 20 minutes later Rusk Police Officer, Shawn Solly, observed the vehicle on FM 343 in Rusk. Officer Solly then attempted to stop the vehicle. At that time a vehicle pursuit began that led the Officer North on FM 343 and West on US 84 for approximately 2 miles, during which time she observed the occupants of the vehicle throwing items from the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop on US 84 where all four occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.

From the time of the initial call to Cherokee County Communications until the arrest time was approximately 30 minutes.
Rusk Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the reported incident. Department of Public Safety Troopers as well as City of Rusk civilian employees also assisted in locating the items thrown from the vehicle.

Investigators recovered two pistols and a box of ammunition apparently thrown from the vehicle. Other items of evidence were seized upon the execution of a search warrant on the vehicle used in the criminal episode. Included in these items was a two-way handheld police type radio with Cherokee County and Anderson County frequencies, and capable of monitoring other law enforcement agencies.

Rusk City Judge Forrest Phifer arraigned all subjects on the Evading Arrest charge and Precinct One Justice of the Peace Brenda Dominy arraigned all subjects on all of the other charges.
