Killeen, TX — Killeen officials have identified the victim of last weekend's shooting as 3-year old Jordan Kenneth Jones.
The investigation revealed at around 8:30 a.m. the victim and his 4-year old brother were inside their mother’s bedroom. Their mother, who was in another room in the house, heard a gunshot. When the mother went to her bedroom, she found Jordan suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest and neck area. The mother had put the 9mm gun atop the chest of drawers out of reach of the children; at some point the 4-year old gained access to the weapon and shot his 3-year old brother.
There have been no charges filed at this time, and the name of the 4-year old will not be released due to his age.
This incident continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.
Killeen Police are investigating the death of a 4-year old boy today in the 2900 block of Boyd Ave.
Officers responded to the 2900 block of Boyd Avenue at 8:36 a.m. after receiving a 911 call saying there had been a shooting at the residence.
Upon an officer’s arrival, they found a child with a gunshot wound to the chest area; he was immediately taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The boy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:24a.m. by officials.
The name of the victim has been withheld at this time.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting may have been accidental.
