(CNN) — The Center for Disease Control is urging the public to get flu shots as the flu season picks up.
They say last year's season was one of the worst in flu season history, sending more than 3,000 people to the hospital and killing 169 children.
They say despite these numbers the vaccine helped to prevent millions of people from getting sick.
However, only 40 percent of people ages six months and older should get the shot.
They say it's too soon to predict this season's outcome, so they advise you to get your shot while supplies are still plentiful.
