A campaign to raise money for the widow of sniper Chris Kyle is close to meeting its goal as its deadline approaches.
Kyle's estate, executed by his wife, Taya, must pay former Governor Jesse Ventura more than $1.8 million in damages after a judge ruled Kyle defamed Ventura in his 2012 best-selling autobiography, "American Sniper."
Clothing company Forged has been trying to raise a million dollars in donations for Kyle's widow and Friday is the last day of the campaign.
So far, the company has brought in more than $900,000.
Kyle was killed in 2013 by another military veteran. Ventura decided to continue his defamation lawsuit following Kyle's death and sued his estate.
The suit stemmed from a passage in Kyle's book that claimed he punched Ventura for making disparaging comments against Navy SEALS in a California bar in 2006. Ventura denies this ever happened.
