TYLER — April 23, 2011 is Earth Day at Caldwell Zoo. As we "party for the planet", the zoo will partner with several local agencies to celebrate this special day -- Keep Tyler Beautiful, Walmart, Master Gardeners, Brookshire's, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Starbucks Coffee Company.
The organizations will have booths set up throughout the zoo with information and activities for visitors of all ages. The Caldwell Zoo staff will also add to the fun with fun activiites for the whole family.
Earth Day reminds all of us of the zoo's cell phone recycling program. You can help us turn old, unused cell phones, cell phone batteries, and chargers into much needed funds for rhino conservation and at teh same time, reduce the amount of toxins found in these phones from ending up in our landfills and poisoning our environment.
All proceeds from teh recucling program will go to the international Rhino Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to worldwide conservation of the five living species of rhinos -- black, white, Indian, Javan, and Sumatran. Caldwell Zoo is home to five black rhinos, including Jumbe and Phineus who were born here.
Happy Birthday Cheetah Cubs!!!
Our three young cheetahs will celebrate their first birthday as we "party for the planet". On April 23, 2010, Azreal, Ares, and Kali were born to Mom, Tundu (on loan from White Oak Conservation Center in Yulee, FL) and Dad, Zaris.
You can join us as we wish our youngsters a very happy first birthday!
Visitors will be creating birthday cards for the growing cheetahs. And, because this is a very special birthday, the cubs will get a one-of-a-kind birthday cake at 2:30 pm.
