The Lufkin Daily News reports well-wishers, friends, city staff and Boy Scouts filled the council chambers at Lufkin City Hall on Tuesday for a swearing-in ceremony for two incumbent Lufkin City Council members and a new mayor.

Judge Paul White of the 159th District Court first swore in Ward 2 council member Robert Shankle, then Ward 4 council member Don Langston, to new three-year terms, asking each to raise their right hands and recite the oath of office.

Langston then invited Bob Brown to take his place for the oath of office. With his left hand on the Bible and right hand raised, Brown took the following oath:

“I, Bob Brown, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of mayor of the city of Lufkin, of the state of Texas, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state, so help me God.”
