Norman, Oklahoma (FOX51) — Oklahoma head football coach, Bob Stoops, has named the Sooners' starting quarterback, and it's not Blake Bell.
Trevor Knight, a Texas native out of San Antonio-Reagan High School and redshirt freshman, will get his first collegiate football start in OU's season opener next week against The Univerisity of Louisiana-Monroe after beating out junior favorite, Bell.
Knight, a four-star recruit coming out of high school, is the first Texas quarterback to start for OU since Leander alum, Paul Thompson, in 2006.
Knight will take over the reigns for the Sooners in a long line of succesful quarterbacks including Heisman winners Jason White and Sam Bradford. Landry Jones also set many school records.
Bell, who was the backup for Jones the past two seasons, was expected to inherit the starting position. In the last two years, Bell rushed for 24 touchdowns while only throwin 20 passes.
