Avoid Black Friday traffic in Tyler

TYLER-- Tyler police say there were ten car accidents in the city on Black Friday last year. This year, Tyler officials say they expect just as much traffic, if not more. They also say the heavy traffic will probably stay until January.

City engineer Justin Smith says South Broadway is the busiest road on Black Friday. He says the busiest intersection is Broadway and Independence, where people are turning left into the mall.

Smith gives drivers tips on how to avoid holiday traffic jams: plan ahead, find a way to turn right into the mall, and use Grande Extension--which stretches from Highway 155 to Troup Highway-- if possible.

If you're planning on going to Broadway Square Mall on Black Friday, here are some alternate routes you can take to avoid the busy Tyler streets:

Coming from the west side of Tyler, come down Loop 323 and take a right on Old Jacksonville. Take a left on Rice Road, which will lead you to a right-hand turn into the mall parking lot.

Coming from the east side of Tyler: come in on Shiloh Road, go past Broadway Avenue, and make right on Old Bullard. Go up Old Bullard and make a right-hand turn into mall.

If you are going to Wal-Mart or Target on South Broadway, take Copeland or Old Jacksonville to Grande, and turn left on South Broadway.
