Angelina Health district board raises its legal budget by $58,000 to cover one citizen's open records requests

Board members for the Angelina County and Cities Health District on Wednesday morning raised the district’s legal budget by $58,000, in large part to handle the volume of open records requests submitted by one county resident.

Lufkin attorney Jimmy Cassels, who represents the district, told the board that David Stua’s numerous Freedom of Information Act requests were responsible for the majority of a 175 percent overrun in the original legal fees budget of $14,000. The board approved a revised legal fees budget of $72,000.
