A Baker woman was arrested after he allegedly locked her four children, ages 1-7, outside of the home for 3 days. She denies the allegations and repeatedly called her children “bad kids.”

The Baker Police Department reports that the investigation began on Thursday, May 16 at a trailer located on Jefferson Street. Officials say a witness called police and reported seeing the children outside of the home for the past 3 days or more.

When officers went to investigate, they found the children, ages 7, 5, 3, and 1, outside of the home. The officer noted that the children were covered in feces and urine and had been wearing the same clothes for several days.

The witness reported seeing the 3 year old sleeping in the doorway of the home. She woke the child and told her to go inside. The child told the woman that she was not allowed to go inside unless her mother was home.

The witness took a photograph of the child sleeping in the doorway and provided it as evidence. Several other photographs were provided as well.

The 25-year-old mother, Danielle D. Kinchen, was questioned by officers. She said that all the allegations were “lies” and that she never leaves the children unattended.

Investigators questioned additional neighbors and witnesses. One neighbor said that Kinchen’s vehicle had not been at the home for the past few days and that the children were seen outside of the home, playing and running in the roadway.

The officer searched the home and observed that it was “not orderly.” There was a mattress located on the floor of a bedroom, which all of the children slept. The room was so cluttered that “it could not be entered.”

When questioned about the condition of her home, Kinchen told investigators that the home was dirty because she “gets tired of cleaning it.” Officials noted that she is currently unemployed. She then repeatedly stated that she has “bad kids.”

Kinchen was arrested and charged with Child Desertion. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The children were left in the custody of Kinchen’s boyfriend during questioning. Child Protection Services has been called to follow up on the investigation.
