116 lbs cocaine, 47 lbs heroine seized in TX drug bust
McAllen, TX (News Center 23) — One-hundred sixteen pounds of cocaine and 47 pounds of heroin sit on a table in the McAllen police station. They are the result of a two day investigation ending in a bust Tuesday for the McAllen record books.
"This probably is our largest one time seizure of heroine. And it happens to be white heroin," said Chief Victor Rodriguez, McAllen Police.
Considered the purest form of heroin, white heroin is very rare to find, much less finding it in these large quantities. Police seized the drugs from a town home on the 500 block of Wichita street. Police said they believe these drugs were not for local dealers.
"We believe these drugs were in a transshipment mode at the time. In other words, they were imported here, and on the move to some inner cities in this country," said Chief Rodriguez.
Several of the packages are marked with numbers and stickers. Police believe these indicate the specific location that each bundle would have been delivered too. Right now, police speculate these drugs were headed to at least five different planned transport areas.
Chief Rodriguez said this shows that border security is not putting a big enough dent in the flow of drugs into the United States.
"Drugs don't seem to have an impediment getting over here. We have seized very serious amounts of marijuana over the last four to six weeks," said Chief Rodriguez.
Police did arrest Mexican National Jose Ocampo, 20. He was charged today with possession of cocaine and heroin. Police said they believe he is working for organized crime and they are currently searching for possible accomplices.
