Harris County, TX — A family Halloween party turned tragic after police say a man ran a stop sign and smashed his Camaro into the backyard of a home, killing one person in Harris County.
Sheriff's accident investigators don't believe the family enjoying their Halloween party had any warning before a white Chevy Camaro smashed through the wood fence.
Detectives say the driver of the Camaro blew through the stop sign on Old Greenhouse Road and Gummert.
A look from above shows the road forms a "T." Investigators say the driver was going fast enough to make it past a steep ditch and well into the backyard, smashing equipment and killing a 38-year-old woman.
The driver of the Camaro fled the scene, after the crash, and police are still attempting to locate that driver. Sergeant Susan Cotter says they do believe they know the identity of the man behind the wheel.
Investigators tracked down the son of the car's owner, who told detectives he lent the car to a friend. That "friend" matches the description family members gave to deputies.
Four other people were hurt in this accident, including a four-year-old girl. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
There are signs that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
